Historic Westside Longmont has a rich history. In the late 1800’s, a group of prominent Chicago businessmen decided that they wanted to build a town in Colorado. They started the Chicago-Colorado Colony, sold shares, and used the money to buy land for a town and surrounding farms. They named the town Longmont because of its proximity to Longs Peak, the beautiful 14,000 foot peak that is visible from around town.
